Strategic Story Sharing for Program Providers and for Individuals with BI

Effective communication is critical to providing sound rationale when working with state advisory boards, consultants, legislators, and grassroots initiatives. Stories bring a human face to issues and engage the audience in a way that written narrative cannot do. Strategic sharing is a framework of storytelling that supports the storyteller and ensures safe and impactful communication. Join us for this collaborative workshop that will share the framework of strategic sharing and resources for implementing the narrative for justification in the daily work of supporting voices of lived experience and better funding for state systems and services. Participants will learn how to craft and deliver strategic narratives that highlight their program’s successes, demonstrate its value, and persuade key stakeholders, including policymakers and funders, of the need for continued or increased support.

Reframing Leadership: Building Strategies for Dynamic Teams

While a few people might have natural leadership skills, most of us need to spend considerable effort cultivating the skills necessary to motivate and to guide employees to do their best work. This framework provides four leadership orientations that can be applied to current and future leadership topics including mentoring, career development, leading in a hybrid/ virtual office environment, and supporting staff. Participants will be exposed to the four leadership orientations, complete an assessment to determine their dominant leadership orientation, analyze leadership scenarios, and develop strategies to implement in their work environment.

From Tension to Trust: De-Escalation Techniques for Brain Injury Support

De-escalation techniques are crucial when interacting with individuals who have experienced brain injury.  Emotional dysregulation and impulse control are common challenges that can lead to elevated outbursts or behavior. Cognitive impairment can result in difficulty with processing information, understanding instructions, or remembering events, which can contribute to misunderstandings and frustration. Individuals may perseverate, making it difficult to redirect or change the subject, leading to conflict.

This skill-building workshop will introduce opportunities to learn de-escalation techniques from a licensed psychologist who has experience in state hospital, correctional, and inpatient hospital settings.
