NASHIA News

January 20, 2005

Dear NASHIA Members,

I hope that you are all doing well and had an wonderful holiday season. As I am sure you can all imagine, things have been quite busy since I last e-mailed you to inform you of Susan's resignation. I have received many e-mails from NASHIA members concerning Susan's resignation and would like to apologize if I failed to respond to you personally. I would now like to take a moment to update you on what has been happening.

As I am sure you will all agree, Susan has been a exceptional Executive Director and has done much to move NASHIA forward and to bring it more into the public eye. Under her leadership and the leadership of NASHIA's Board of Directors, NASHIA staff and members have developed strong relationships with many of our federal partners and produced many excellent and exciting products. I want to like to thank Susan for what she has done and to wish her the best in her new position as BIAA President. I hope that NASHIA members will join me in thanking Susan and wishing her the best. Susan's last day as NASHIA's Executive Director will be January 31, 2005.

While Susan can not be replaced, NASHIA is very fortunate to have Ken Currier as our Deputy Director. Although Ken has worked predominantly with the TAC center, he has been involved in many NASHIA endeavors and has a good understanding of NASHIA and its mission. In my discussions with Ken since Susan's resignation, he has impressed me with his knowledge, creativity and dedication to NASHIA. As such, the NASHIA Board of Directors moved to name Ken as our Acting Executive Director starting Feb. 1, 2005. This appointment will provide NASHIA with a smooth transition, excellent leadership and allow the Board to look more closely at our organizational structure and plan for it's future, including naming a permanent Executive Director.

I would like to remind all NASHIA members of the upcoming TBI Act reauthorization. This is extremely important legislation and it will not passed without all of our efforts. Over the next few months you will be receiving information regarding the reauthorization and what you can do to help its passage. I urge all members to get involved and do your part in getting the TBI act passed! The TBI Act will only be reauthorized through collaboration with our partners at BIAA and NAPAS and efforts of our members.

I welcome your input so please fell free to contact me.
