As a veteran of Desert Storm, General Kay has a unique insight into the casualties of war and the critical issues surrounding injuries during combat. He introduced the workshop with his perspective on patriotism, history, and attitudes of today’s veterans returning from war.

Understanding how communities and agencies work together to outreach and address the needs of our service members, Ms. Rowe-Kerr shared the process Missouri has created for best practices in serving veterans and those who care for them. Participants will learn about the State Veterans Ombudsman and “Operation Outreach,” a program designed to assist National Guard and Reserve service members and their families as well as injured Active Duty personnel.
Heart of a Hero

General Kay facilitated discussion of true Heroes speaking from the heart about their war experiences and the challenges they and their loved ones faced once they returned to American soil. Participants gained personal insight into the military culture and an understanding of the barriers and challenges facing returning veterans.
