NASHIA’s Board of Directors and staff are committed to working in partnership to achieve the following goals and objectives:
- Build an effective, sustainable national organization.
- Build a culturally diverse membership representing all 50 States and Territories.
- Retain existing membership and respond to member needs and interests.
- Increase membership to 1,000 members and increase State-of-the-States attendance to 400-600 participants through targeted outreach efforts.
- Monitor and maintain existing funding streams and develop new sources of support (including specialty conferences) to achieve organizational goals and sponsor and underwrite the State-of-the-States conference.
- Build partnerships that positively impact members and persons who have experienced brain injury.
- Develop collaborative relationships with Medicaid and other community-based service payors.
- Establish cooperative agreements with critical partners.
- Develop outcome measures in collaboration with others.
- Develop collaborative relationships with behavioral health system.
- Provide outreach to other national organizations through presentations at their conferences and meetings.
- Enhance State capacity to provide services and supports to individuals with brain injury and their families.
- Publish state policy and program resource guide.
- Expand access to model programs and legislation.
- Increase visibility of brain injury and foster collaboration among related agencies within and across States.
- Support and strengthen NASHIA’s regional groups.
- Provide training and technical assistance in funding and cultural competence.
- Influence public policy.
- Assist members in becoming effective participants in the public policy process.
- Influence TBI issues through the Congressional Task Force on Brain Injury.
- Amend and fully fund the Traumatic Brain Injury Act.
- Ensure the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) adequately addresses the needs of individuals with brain injury.
- Increase funds for long-term supported employment for persons with brain injury.
- Explore alternatives for financing rehabilitation for persons with brain injury.
