NASHIA’s 2006 STRATEGIC PLAN

NASHIA’s Board of Directors and staff are committed to working in partnership to achieve the following goals and objectives:

  1. Build an effective, sustainable national organization.
    1. Build a culturally diverse membership representing all 50 States and Territories.
    2. Retain existing membership and respond to member needs and interests.
    3. Increase membership to 1,000 members and increase State-of-the-States attendance to 400-600 participants through targeted outreach efforts.
    4. Monitor and maintain existing funding streams and develop new sources of support (including specialty conferences) to achieve organizational goals and sponsor and underwrite the State-of-the-States conference.
  2. Build partnerships that positively impact members and persons who have experienced brain injury.
    1. Develop collaborative relationships with Medicaid and other community-based service payors.
    2. Establish cooperative agreements with critical partners.
    3. Develop outcome measures in collaboration with others.
    4. Develop collaborative relationships with behavioral health system.
    5. Provide outreach to other national organizations through presentations at their conferences and meetings.
  3. Enhance State capacity to provide services and supports to individuals with brain injury and their families.
    1. Publish state policy and program resource guide.
    2. Expand access to model programs and legislation.
    3. Increase visibility of brain injury and foster collaboration among related agencies within and across States.
    4. Support and strengthen NASHIA’s regional groups.
    5. Provide training and technical assistance in funding and cultural competence.
  4. Influence public policy.
    1. Assist members in becoming effective participants in the public policy process.
    2. Influence TBI issues through the Congressional Task Force on Brain Injury.
    3. Amend and fully fund the Traumatic Brain Injury Act.
    4. Ensure the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) adequately addresses the needs of individuals with brain injury.
    5. Increase funds for long-term supported employment for persons with brain injury.
    6. Explore alternatives for financing rehabilitation for persons with brain injury.
